This camera replaced my old F10 Fuji Finepix.I had several cameras (Fuji/Canon/Olympus) but this is the first time I’m trying out Kodak (cheapest HD camera I’ve found that allow zoom during movie recording mode)

I took two stars away from it for two reasons:

1. Macro shooting mode is horrible.It won’t shoot at close range at all comparing to other cameras I have had.I was able to shoot a nice close up at 1 inch range with Fuji and Olympus but this Kodak Easyshare will not focus and get blurry as soon as the lense is in the 6 inch range from object.I returned and exchange my Easyshare once because I thought the first one was broken.I was surprised to learn that this camera will not do a close up shot.

2. Movie recording length is limit to 29 minutes when shooting in HD.I read on Kodak website and it says “80 minutes” and I misunderstood.80 minutes max … at lowest resolution – that is

There are many good things about this camera.It uses SD card.It records very nice HD quality video (picture/sound).It can zoom in recording mode (Fuji does not). It takes good pictures (12MP).Battery life is pretty good.Forget Sony Handycam, get this Z1285 instead and have a blast with HD video recording!

For a point and shoot camera, this little gem packs a lot of advanced features. It’s definitely not a DSLR but it’s sure convenient when you want to conceal it and carry it with you in your pocket.

Pros:
1) Red-eye correction. No more red-eyes! It automatically fixes them.
2) Image stabilization. Will correct your hand movements but will not stop action.
3) Face Detection. Automatically finds and focuses on faces, and sets the proper exposure.
4) LCD Screen. The 2 1/2 LCD screen is very high resolution.
5) Lots of choices concerning picture quality and color.
6) Image and video quality are very good for such a small camera.
7) Optical viewfinder. Many cameras do not have this. It comes in handy when you do not want to use the LCD screen such as in theaters.
Auto White Balance is much improved over the older Digic II processors.
9) There is a manual setting where you can treak your photo settings. My preference is “Positive Film,” “ISO 100,” “+1/3 exposure,” “flash on.” The photos look fantastic.

Cons:
1) Noisy pictures with ISO settings over 200. (Pretty much what you get with any point and shoot camera.) Auto setting usually selects ISO 200, which is a little noisy. You’re better off to go with ISO 80 or 100.
2) Lens is wide enough for most purposes but it’s definitely not a “wide angle” lens. There is some barrel distortion on the short end, meaning that straight lines, buidings, walls, etc, appear a little curved.
3) Battery/SD Card Door can slide out and pop open easily.
4) Cannot chose aperature or shutter speeds manually.
5) No battery life meter. The LCD screen only displays a “low battery” warning.

Bottom Line:
This camera is a great little convenient camera, which is able to be concealed easily, and taken about anywhere because it easily slips into a purse or pocket. It’s a great camera for taking indoor portraits with flash, as well as outdoor photos. It is not good at stopping action. Pictures of kids and pets running around will often be blurry because of the 1/60 sec. shutter speed. If you are needing to take low-light or action/sports photos, you would be better off purchasing a cheap DSLR. The only reason I don’t give this camera 5 stars is because of the noise at higher ISO’s.

We recently purchased our Canon to replace the Nikon Coolpix that bit the dust.I was ready for something more advanced as I love to take pictures of my kids to share. This camera is amazing, no more delay when i’m snapping pictures of our toddler or during our older sons baseball games. The ONLY downside (why I gave 4 stars) is the life of the battery.The camera goes thru them like water..We currently have Lithium batteries in it now and they seemed to be lasting a little longer. I’ve owned over countless Canon/Sony models over the decade but just want to give a heads up since this is a new model and I wanted to give my opinion first.
I just got this today. Very cheap feel…camera feels very hollow and light. Pictures are great as usual from Canon. Not as many functions as my SD940 but a good point and shoot for the price. The right corner nob is a new twist for Canon ELPH models which looked weird at first but fast if you want to switch shooting modes (compared to my SD940). The thickness could be more compact given that the camera feels so light and hollow inside. The buttons need to be more crisp but its the pictures what matters most. Overall, decent camera for the money. If I had to buy again for the same price, I would go with the SD1200 which is more solid and compact.

I almost sent this camera back.The shots were SO “noisy.”I was shocked that a Canon camera at this price point could produce such lousy photos, when the Canon point and shoot camera I bought for $199 about a year ago takes great shots.

Then I read the manual (go ye, therefore, and do likewise!)and the reviews, and started taking the breath-taking shots I expected from a Canon 12 MP camera with 12 x OIS.The secret:DO NOT SHOOT IN AUTO OR “EASY” MODE!The ISO setting is too high, resulting in “noisy” photos.I am an experienced digital photographer, but when I’m taking snapshots of my daughter running and playing, I like to shoot in AUTO.I now shoot in PROGRAM mode much of the time, specifying the ISO setting I wanted, and let the camera do the rest.The scene, kids & pets, indoor, and portrait settings work well, as with other Canon models.

The only complaint I have about the camera, other than the useless AUTO and “EASY” modes, is that the access door for the HDMI and USB ports is flimsily constructed and attached.

Many reviewers dislikethe pop-up flash, but I prefer it.It cannot break, even if you have your finger on the panel when you turn on the camera.It was designed for the user to be able to hold/push it down when flash is not desired.Having a pop-up flash, rather than one in the body of the camera, reduces red-eye, to some degree.The lens barrel extends 1.875″ at 12x optical zoom, so the flashprobably had to be moved up to avoid a shadow when zooming.

The movie mode is the best I’ve seen in a still camera, but the footage does not look like HD to me.The footage looks pretty good on my computer display in a large QuickTime window, but is not good enough for a larger screen (TV).It would be perfect for shooting YouTube footage, or anything you intend to share on the web.For everything else, I’ll continue to use my Canon HD video camera that shoots in 1080i.I didn’t buy this camera for the video shooting capability, so that it shoots decent (though not HD) video is a bonus for me.

This is a well-rounded point-and-shoot camera with a BIG, HONKIN’ LENS, fantastic zoom and resolution, well organized menus, and lots of useful features.The MACRO (which works well in AUTO, oddly enough) is DREAMY.Shooting in full MANUAL, or shutter and aperture priority, yields predictably wonderful results.I recommend the SX200IS to anyone who is looking for a full-featured point-and-shoot camera, and is comfortable shooting in any mode but AUTO.

I got an earlier version of this camera, the S550, to take to England to see crop circles. I have a Nikon D70 which I used to take, but that was a lot of weight in my luggage and hiking around the fields of Wiltshire county.
10 megapixels is almost twice the resolution of the D70 (I now have a D90) so I still came home with great photos! I also discovered that I could shoot video of the crop circle I was in by mounting the camera on the end of my walking stick, starting the camera shooting video and raising it up over my head, and once I perfected my aim, I was able to get a video panorama of the formation from about 12′ up – awesome!
Anyway, good small camera, Nikon quality, high resolution, good price – is that enough for you?
BTW, I moved up to the S560 because it now has a micro-USB connector, so you don’t have to use the clunky connector that came with the S550. Oh, and image stabilization, which I never pay attention to but probably helps.

I brought this camera a few months ago since my other one was a bit outdated. The price was right and It was modern looking so it seemed like the right choice for me.

Pros
Has good modes (esp beauty mode)
Takes sharp crisp pictures
Has a Large bright LCD screen
Has a Guidance menu that tells you what all the functions do.

Cons
No look thru View finder.
Eats Batteries regardless of being lithium batteries ( like they recommend)
Tough to access different camera modes many menus have to be accessed.
No Mode Wheel ( easy for turning to modes)
The lens the motor is weak it frequently gets stuck and mine ultimately broke.

The reason why I did give this product some stars , is because it takes beautiful pictures. I am sad that the mechanical aspects have to bog this camera down.I ended up taking mine apart because the motor on the lens did not work anymore.

Not saying this happens for many people.. I have many samsung items and I am happy with them all except this one.

I am an extremely poor amateur photographer, and this camera makes me look great!We took both still and video of my friend’s BD party just after we got it (without reading the manual) and both turned out great.The video quality is amazing.

We took 2 videos, one with a relatively high end Sony Video camera (HD) and one with the Lumix (HD).The quality of the video was the same.The Sony had better controls on the zooming, but amazingly, the sound quality on the Lumix was better.Of course, you can hook up an external mic with the Sony, but still….

I can’t say enough good things about this camera.I was looking for something small that would fit in my purse, and this fits the bill and has tremendous quality as well.There are some manual controls for experienced photographers, but I am a strictly point and shoot girl.The auto focus feature determines the correct setting, and the majority of the pictures I have taken are great without fiddling with anything other than the zoom.

Purchased this to replace my Canon A1000, which I bought last year for a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park.Had to really struggle to get a good pic with the Canon — I was very aggravated with it (though I finally came up with some program combinations that worked okay for the low light under the trees).But I decided for this summer’s trip to the beach to try a new camera, with more zoom, and pass my Canon down to my 12-year-old son — who’s not nearly as picky as I am

Did a bit of research (which is always overwhelming because there’s such a huge selection to choose from, and such a diversity of opinions on what makes a “good” camera).And I still wanted a pocket camera for convenience when hiking, fishing, float tripping, etc., so the Canon SX20 and Nikon P100 and the like were still too large for my needs.And then I came across well over 100 user reviews raving about the Panasonic ZS3 — the predecessor of the ZS5/7 models — on various websites, and it’s reviews were also very good on “official” review sites.What especially impressed me was a review by a couple who guide trips to Yellowstone, were experienced SLR users, and had tried the ZS3 as a compact alternative — and they loved it for outdoor shots.So I decided to try out the newer version of the ZS3, the ZS5.

(The main differences I saw between the ZS5 and ZS7 were that the ZS5′s screen is 2.7″ instead of 3.0″, the ZS7 has two custom “My Scene’s” instead of one, the ZS7 has a built-in GPS, and the ZS7 also has stereo video instead of mono, with more advanced video technology.None of those features were important to me for the additional money.)

I’ve had the camera only a couple of days, and have done various side-by-side camera comparisons between the ZS5 and the Canon A1000, and I’m pretty floored by the capabilities and photo quality of the ZS5.I’m especially impressed with the macro (I like to take wildflower pics).While no camera is perfect (from what I’ve seen), for me the ZS5 is going to be just what I needed for outdoor pictures.I’ll update this review once I’ve had more time to experiment.

Update 05/11/10:Some cons — (1) Battery door latch seems a little flimsy; wonder if it will get where it doesn’t latch tight after alot of use?Only time will tell. (Other than that, this camera feels solidly built.)(2) Proprietary battery that has an ID chip built in, and the software in the camera looks for that (on their website, Panasonic says this change was made to ensure battery quality/safety).However, it appears you can finally get a 3rd-party battery thru Amazon (meaning a whole lot cheaper), and other vendors — just be sure to look for “ID Secured” batteries (e-mail and ask the vendor first if you’re not sure).I knew this before I bought the camera, but figured it should be pointed out.(3) I’ve had several indoor shots, in not very low light, that looked fuzzy, especially when you zoomed in on a PC.Not always the case, though.I think the “iA” mode is not always as intelligent as it should be.Also, reducing to 4 stars, so as not to mislead anyone that the camera is “perfect” — though it’s still “pretty amazing”, and I’m really happy with it.

Update 05/14/10:The best pics seem to come with my own settings, and not with the “iA” mode where the computer is trying to make all the decisions for me.So you’ll want to learn what the various settings do (and there’s quite a few of them — lots of flexibility).The ZS5 has three “Custom” memory slots in which to save your own configurations (which is great — my Canon had no memory slots, and I was constantly fiddling with the settings).
