Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S45 – Digital camera Review

March 8th, 2010 No comments

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S45 - Digital camera - compact - 5.1 Mpix - optical zoom: 3 x - supported memory: MS Duo, MS PRO DuoThis camera was affordable and was delivered quickly. I had to keep the USB cord from my old camera in order to upload pictures and the battery latch doesn’t always close all the way. Overall, though, it is a great camera that gets the job done.

Olympus CAMEDIA C-4040 Zoom - Digital camera - 4.1 Mpix - optical zoom: 3 x - supported memory: SM - blackI’ve had a C-4040 for years and it took astoundingly great pictures.I was never disappointed in the quality of the photos or the actual function of the camera.Sadly I had an accident recently and my camera was ruined.I know there are newer camera’s out there.I actually picked up an Olympus Stylus point and shoot and I like it very much. But I still miss my C-4040, so I had to see if I could find a replacement and I have.I’ll be glad to have my old companion (or I should say my old companion’s look-a-like) hanging on the strap around my neck again this spring.Thanks….Pam JSMilwaukee, WI

Nikon Coolpix S51 - Digital camera - compact - 8.1 Mpix - optical zoom: 3 x - supported memory: MMC, SD, SDHC - blueNice looking camera, but very slow…have to wait 2-3 seconds for the camera to take the picture. Not good if your subject moves around a lot.Impossible to get one of those ‘right now’ shots.

Had the same problem with my older Nikon. Would not recommend.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T7/B – Digital camera black Review

February 22nd, 2010 No comments

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T7/B - Digital camera - 5.1 Mpix - optical zoom: 3 x - supported memory: MS Duo, MS PRO Duo - blackI recently decided to supplement my Sony DSC-F828 with a second, much smaller and less intimidating to subjects camera to share with my wife. Key requirements were: small and thin but with a large LCD, zoom lens that does not protrude from the camera, and automatic dust cover.

The new Sony DSC-T7 is by far the thinnest camera I could find that is any good. It is 5MP, only 1/3rd of an inch thick, has a solid lens cover and huge 2.5″ LCD , and its lens does not protrude from the camera to scare the subjects. Amazingly, it not only fits in a shirt pocket, but fits along with an iPod or Treo.

If you get one, also get a spare battery, as one is only good for about an hour of use. Also get a bigger Memory Stick (Pro Duo). The largest I could find in stock was a 512M Sandisk that works fine, but if a 1GB one had been available, I’d have chosen that instead, and in the 5x higher-speed Sony version. Be sure to cover the LCD with a sheet of the screen protectors sold for Palm PDAs. Also, since it isn’t water resistant, you may want to carry it in a small ZIP-lock baggie when there’s any chance it will get wet.

Compared to the DSC-F828, the DSC-T7 lacks an optical viewfinder, has only a 3x zoom, and a maximum aperture of F4 rather than F2 (so can’t take pictures in dark areas as easily, and the resulting slow shutter can lead to blurry photos if not held very steadily.)

Product Description
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T7 features 5.1 Megapixel image capture, a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with 3X optical zoom and 5 area multi-point auto focus, all in a camera body only 5/8 of an inch thick. It even includes a full-sized 2.5″ hybrid LCD monitor with a Clear Photo technology for improved viewing in bright sunlight. The T7’s ultra-compact design doesn’t compromise its performance thanks to Sony’s Real Imaging Processor LSI, 14-Bit DXP A/D conversion processor, and multi-pattern measuring. All three combine to provides fast start-up times, fast shutter speeds, and accurate exposures for excellent digital photographs everytime. The T7 includes the Cyber-shot Station for a quick and easy way to charge your camera while simultaneously transferring images to your personal computer or viewing photos on your compatible television.

Kodak EASYSHARE C763 – Digital camera Review

February 20th, 2010 No comments

Kodak EASYSHARE C763 - Digital camera - compact - 7.0 Mpix - optical zoom: 3 x - supported memory: MMC, SDThis camera appears to be the same as the prior 7 mpix model but with a better battery. It comes with a rechargable Li-ion battery and charger.I’ve had the camera a couple weeks and haven’t had to recharge.I have taken some nice pictures and a few movie clips with good quality. This camera is easy to use, with the different settings displayed as you turn the dial, so you know what you’re getting without trying to remember the visual cues.Only problem I’ve had is it takes my computer a lot longer to edit pictures with this many mpix.Quite a change from my old 2 mpix camera.I purchased this bundled with a 7″ digital frame for $170 at Best Buy.I think this camera is an excellent value for the $$.
